      <title><![CDATA[Beko Earns 2018 ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year Award]]></title>

<p>Beko, the #1 European freestanding home appliance brand recently introduced into the North American market, has earned ENERGY STAR Most Efficient ratings on 78 percent of its laundry models and 55 percent of its dishwashers. The Most Efficient rating is a designation recognizing products that deliver cutting-edge energy efficiency with the latest in technological innovation.</p>
<p>In addition, Beko has achieved ENERGY STAR certification for over 90 percent of its major appliances. These accomplishments will be recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy in a ceremony in Washington, D.C. on April 20, 2018.</p>

<p>The company brings intelligent energy and water conservation to the laundry room with its 2018 ENERGY STAR Most Efficient-rated compact washing machines and Ventless Heat Pump Dryers. "It&rsquo;s the &ldquo;ultimate energy efficiency duo," says Beko Product Director Sazi Bugay.</p>

<p>The company&rsquo;s washers feature an automatic water adjustment system that uses only the amount of water required to spotlessly clean and thoroughly rinse clothes.       <title><![CDATA[Beko Home Appliances Invites Hockey Fans to Submit Videos of Their Best Hockey Tricks]]></title>

<p>Until Friday, March 30 at 5 p.m. CT, hockey fans can submit up to a 60-second video showcasing their best hockey trick either on or off the ice, as long as it includes a stick and a puck. Once submitted, participants are encouraged to get friends and family to vote for their video. The participant with the most votes will win four tickets to see the Chicago Blackhawks take on the St. Louis Blues in Chicago on April 6, 2018, <em>and</em> will have an opportunity to perform the trick with a Chicago Blackhawks player.</p>

      <title><![CDATA[Case Study on  UC Berkeley/U of Denver Solar Decathlon Home:  Affordable, Sustainable, Stackable Home Designed for  Urban Infill in Richmond, Calif.]]></title>

      <description><![CDATA[<p>Students from the University of California at Berkeley and the University of Denver have overcome the challenges of distance to create RISE (Residential, Inviting, Stackable, Efficient), an affordable, sustainable solution for middle- to low-income families who struggle with the cost of housing in densely populated areas. Providing energy-efficient appliances for the home is Chicago-area-based Beko US, Inc. (<a href="https://www.bekoappliances.com/">www.bekoappliances.com</a>).</p>

<p>RISE is both schools&rsquo; first-ever entry in the U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon, which challenges the 12 participating university teams to design and build solar-powered houses. University teams must disassemble and ship their Solar Decathlon homes to Denver, Colo., and reassemble them for judging and exhibition to the public on Oct. 5-9, and 12-15, 2017.</p>

<p>While the RISE home is being built on the University of Denver campus, the design of the home started about two years ago on the UC Berkeley campus. An interdisciplinary team of UC Berkeley students with majors ranging from civil engineering, architecture and environmental design to legal studies, media studies and business worked on the home&rsquo;s design. It took the team of real estate and construction management students from the University of Denver to actually build it.</p>

<p>Project manager Sam Durkin, a 2017 UC Berkeley graduate, said, &ldquo;A good management team and a core group of students have worked well together across state lines, using weekly video calls and occasional visits to collaborate on the design and build.&rdquo;</p>

<p>RISE features practical, logical design solutions as opposed to expensive technologies and elaborate systems to achieve energy-efficiency and sustainable living. The design allows for multiplication and integration into larger sets of units that fit on long, narrow lots in urban areas. This particular unit is designed to represent the bottom one of a three-story model. &ldquo;The larger concept is a community-driven commitment to more green living,&rdquo; says Durkin.</p>

<p>The team plans to relocate the home to Richmond, a suburb just north of Berkeley, where it will be donated to the Richmond Community Foundation and sold as affordable housing to a family in its program.</p>

<p>&ldquo;Students and managers on the project have learned the life skill of taking a project from beginning to end &ndash; through inception, design, partnerships and construction &ndash; and how much drive you need personally through difficult times,&rdquo; Durkin said. &ldquo;In the process, we&rsquo;ve gained team building and leadership skills, and learned how to interact on a professional level with HVAC suppliers, appliance manufacturers, homebuilding experts, etc.&rdquo;</p>

<p>Core aspects of the 996-square foot <em>SILO</em> include: a <em>smart</em> home automation system; <em>innovative</em> cutting-edge technologies such as a solar array, greywater reclamation and energy storage; abundant greenery and modern efficient appliances combined for truly smart <em>living</em>; and an <em>oasis</em> filled with ample sunlight, clean air and a relaxing atmosphere.</p>

<p>The home kit consists of separate components and systems parts that can be efficiently manufactured, transported, assembled and disassembled. The design can be readily adapted to a range of climates, communities, construction technologies and ecological environments. re<em>ACT</em> also allows families to incrementally build larger and more technologically advanced infrastructure and features as their needs change. Andros says, &ldquo;It&rsquo;s a better way to build than popular housing models, and it doesn&rsquo;t necessarily cost more.&rdquo;&nbsp;</p>

<p>The prototype home features 940 square feet of interior space, a 160-square-foot glazed courtyard and 400 square feet of outdoor deck. Besides providing additional dining and lounging space, the courtyard aids in regulating light, temperature and humidity in the home, operating in sync with a mechanical core at the heart of the interior. This core contains high performance, environmentally sensitive systems that interact with one another to manage the flow of water, air and energy. &ldquo;The core stays the same, but the &ldquo;wings&rdquo; of the home can be changed in reaction to different environments and the occupants&rsquo; needs,&rdquo; Andros said.</p>
